Udupi District Government Approved Homestay Association Meeting Highlights Key Issues Faced by Homestay Owners

Udupi, Karnataka | October 6, 2026

The Udupi District Government Approved Homestay Association (R) recently conducted a productive meeting at Madhuvan Serai Hotel, Manipal, bringing together homestay owners and association members to discuss important challenges, regulations and opportunities in the growing Udupi homestay industry. Held from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, the meeting provided an excellent platform for homestay owners to interact with fellow members, share their experiences and seek clarity on some of the practical issues they face while operating their properties.

For members of the Udupi homestay community, the meeting was particularly valuable because it addressed concerns directly related to electricity connections, MESCOM regulations and the day-to-day challenges of running a homestay business

Important Discussion on MESCOM LT1 and LT3 Connections

One of the major highlights of the meeting was the interaction with Mr. Ganaraj Bhat, Senior Officer, MESCOM, Udupi Sub-Division.

A number of homestay owners had been facing difficulties in understanding the applicable MESCOM rules and regulations concerning LT1 and LT3 electricity connections. In some cases, lack of clarity regarding the applicable rules had resulted in significant fines being imposed on homestay owners.

The presence of Mr. Ganaraj Bhat provided members with an opportunity to openly discuss these concerns and explain the difficulties they had encountered. Several homestay owners shared their individual experiences and sought clarification regarding their electricity connections and MESCOM requirements.

The discussion helped many members gain a better understanding of the issues involved, while Mr. Ganaraj Bhat assured the participants that their concerns would be looked into and that efforts would be made to find appropriate solutions. This interaction was one of the most valuable aspects of the meeting, as direct communication between government-related authorities and Udupi homestay owners can help create greater clarity and reduce confusion regarding regulatory requirements.

Membership Registration for Homestay Owners

The meeting also began with a membership registration drive for homestay owners who had not yet registered with the association. The registration process provided an opportunity for more homestay owners to become part of the association and benefit from a common platform where issues affecting the industry can be discussed collectively.

With the number of homestays in Udupi continuing to grow alongside the region’s popularity as a tourism destination, having a strong and active association can play an important role in representing the interests of homestay operators.

A Productive Evening of Interaction and Networking

Apart from the formal discussions, the meeting provided an opportunity for homestay owners to meet one another, exchange experiences and understand the challenges faced by others in the industry. Running a homestay involves much more than simply providing accommodation. Owners have to deal with government regulations, electricity requirements, guest expectations, property maintenance, tourism-related rules and several other operational matters.

Meetings such as this create an important platform where owners can learn from one another and work towards common solutions. For the Udupi homestay industry, collaboration between property owners can help create a stronger and more professional tourism ecosystem.

Evening Tea and Snacks

The organisers also ensured that the meeting remained warm and welcoming for all participants. All guests were served evening tea and snacks, which were appreciated by the attendees. The refreshments provided a relaxed opportunity for members to interact informally before and after the discussions.

Event Led by Mr. Madhukesh Rai and the Association Committee

The meeting was headed by Mr. Madhukesh Rai, Chairman of the Udupi District Government Approved Homestay Association (R), along with the association’s committee members. The organisers deserve appreciation for bringing together homestay owners and facilitating a meaningful discussion around issues that directly affect their businesses.

The meeting demonstrated the importance of having a common platform where homestay owners in Udupi can raise concerns, seek expert guidance and work collectively towards solutions.

A Positive Message for the Future

The meeting concluded with a speech by Mr. Madhukesh Rai, who assured members that the association would continue working towards finding solutions to the problems faced by homestay owners. He also encouraged members to actively support and participate in the association’s activities so that the community can become stronger and work together towards the growth of the homestay sector in Udupi.

His message highlighted an important point: when homestay owners work together, the entire local tourism ecosystem can benefit. A strong association can help create better communication between homestay operators, authorities and other stakeholders while also contributing towards a more organised and sustainable homestay industry in Udupi.

Group Photo Marks the End of a Fruitful Meeting

The event concluded on a positive note with a group photograph of the participating members, capturing the spirit of togetherness and cooperation that defined the evening.

For everyone who attended, the meeting was more than just another association gathering. It was an opportunity to understand important regulatory matters, share real-world experiences and build stronger connections with fellow homestay owners.

Looking Ahead for Udupi’s Homestay Community

Udupi has become an increasingly popular destination for travellers looking to experience its beautiful beaches, temples, cultural heritage, cuisine and natural surroundings.

From Malpe Beach and Kaup Beach to Sri Krishna Matha and the region’s scenic countryside, the district offers plenty for tourists to explore. As tourism grows, professionally managed and responsible homestays can play an increasingly important role in providing visitors with authentic and comfortable accommodation.

The continued efforts of organisations such as the Udupi District Government Approved Homestay Association (R) can help ensure that local homestay owners have a platform to address common concerns and contribute positively to the tourism sector.

The successful meeting at Madhuvan Serai Hotel, Manipal, was an encouraging step in that direction.

At Jayadurga Farms Homestay, we are happy to be part of the Udupi homestay community and look forward to participating in initiatives that strengthen cooperation, awareness and sustainable growth within the local hospitality industry.

Together, Udupi’s homestay owners can build a stronger future for local tourism.
